Space Opera Text Adventure — Captain Your Own Ship, Free in Your Browser
This is the space opera the big franchises never let you touch: not a chosen-one destiny, but a working galaxy of hungry freighters, dock-side politics and frontier stations that keep running whether you show up or not. On every turn you type what your captain actually does — bribe the harbormaster, cut the fuel line, lie to the syndicate — and the galaxy adapts and remembers. Debts follow you. Allies remember. The stars keep their own accounts.
Play this world →The freighter Calliope drops out of transit two hours early, alarms chewing at the dark. Below you, Harrow Station turns slow against a dead sun — a rust-colored wheel strung with the running lights of a hundred ships that don't want to be seen. Your comms crackle. A dock controller, bored: "Unregistered mass, state your cargo." In the hold behind you, something that is very much not registered shifts against its straps. You reach for the mic.

FAQ
What kind of space opera stories can I play here?
Grounded, lived-in ones — smuggling runs, station politics, salvage jobs, mercenary contracts and frontier diplomacy rather than pure military epics. You can lean toward roguish freighter-captain adventure, tense first-contact intrigue, or slow-burn factional power struggles, and the AI shapes the galaxy around the tone you set.
Can I really type any action, or do I just pick from a list?
You type your own move in plain language every turn — hail a warship, forge a manifest, jettison the cargo, betray your first mate. There are no fixed menus, so your captain can attempt anything a real person in that galaxy could, and the story responds to exactly what you wrote.
Does the galaxy remember my choices between turns?
Yes. Debts, grudges, alliances and reputations persist across the story, so a syndicate you crossed on one station can have you flagged three jumps later. The world holds onto who you are and what you've done.
Do I need to know Star Wars, Dune or The Expanse to enjoy it?
No. Every story starts a fresh, original galaxy with its own factions and worlds, so no franchise lore is required. If you love that genre feel, though, you'll recognize the DNA — you're just writing your own corner of it.
How is this different from AI Dungeon or a generic AI story generator?
Perpetale is free, runs instantly in your browser with no sign-up, and is built around agency plus memory: you type real actions and the galaxy tracks the consequences. Generic story generators give you one-shot prose with no continuity, and unlike AI Dungeon there's no account or app needed to play your first turn.
How it works
- Describe or pick an action — anything.
- The world responds and remembers what you did.
- The story never ends — it grows with you.
